Running the Sims 1 in Windows 10. Download a no CD crack. You can find this quite easily by googling. Will be better if you get Sims 1 Complete Collection. Anyone have a clue where I might find a no-cd crack for Sims Complete Collection??? I wanna use the cd as little as possible so it last as long as pos. The Sims: Complete Collection v1.91 [MULTI] No-CD/Fixed EXE; The Sims: Complete Collection [MULTI] No-CD/Fixed Image; The Sims: Makin' Magic v1.9 Fixed EXE.
The Sims Complete Collection Download
Hey all,
This is my first day in this sub, so please be kind!
I'm trying to get the very first Sims game working on Windows 10. I know, I know, it's so old and Windows 10 is so new, you can't expect it to work. But the nostalgia! The feels! This is a valid CD version of the game - not an illegal download!
I have managed to complete the installation, but I'm having problems actually launching the game. Here's my report so far:
Inserted disk. Auto run failed. Start.exe appears in task view but does nothing. Put into compat mode for Windows XP SP3 (and earlier versions) but nothing. *Start.exe just sits in the task view.
So I decided to avoid the autorun screen entirely and go straight to the Setup folder where I found setup.exe. Ran in compatibility mode. Worked a charm - game is installed. Great stuff.
Wait a sec... no start menu shortcut, no desktop shortcut. Strange.
Insert disk 1 again. Start.exe does it's thing of hiding in my task list doing sweet FA. Close the task.
Navigate to install folder (:GamesMaxisThe Sims) and find the sims.exe executable (only executable in the folder).
Try to run it, nothing. Check task viewer, nothing there. Hmm. Set compat mode to Win XP SP3 and run as admin. Nothing. Nothing in task viewer. Hmm. Run again in compat view, this time with task manager open. See sims.exe open REALLY briefly then close again.
Turned PC off and on again. Tried to run in compat/admin. No dice.
I'm not MASSIVELY technical, but I know enough to be a danger to my computer. Do any of you have any advice?
Much love!
Edit1 - Formatting
Edit2 - It turns out there is a start menu icon, Windows10 just likes to hide these things in a massive long list now instead of organising like the good old days. Running the shortcut from there with both resolution modes (800x600 and 1064x768) both result in nothing at all happening. Didn't even see sims.exe try to open in the task manager. Edit3 - Tried adding -w -r1024x768 to the end of my shortcut to force the game into windowed mode at 1024x768 resolution, the same as /u/guibmaster. Didn't have any effect :(
Edit4 - Uninstalled the entire thing and reinstalled the base game only, with none of the expansions. Still no life in the old girl...
Edit5 - likely final one - Friends, I've given up. The mind is willing, but the flesh is spongy and weak. Thank you for all your assistance to this point, but it just seems like unless I decide to go down the VM route, it's not to be. You're all awesome. Dag Dag.
Edit6 - the unexpected and unwanted sequel - this issue is 'kind of' solved. View update here: https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims/comments/3hf4p4/part_2_the_sims_1_windows_10/
